Meyer Zoysia

Meyer zoysia is a warm season grass that thrives in the summer heat, but can also withstand the cold winters in the St. Louis region. It is known to be hearty, easy to maintain, very drought tolerant and often chosen for high traffic areas. In terms of fertilization, watering, and mowing; Meyer zoysia typically requires less maintenance than that of bluegrass and fescue. This makes it an attractive choice for many homeowners. Zoysia grass is extremely drought tolerant. It has the capacity to almost instantly respond to subsequent irrigation or rainfall. Zoysia grass also has a deep root system allowing it to more effectively extract water from greater soil depths.

Zoysia grass has good salt tolerance and can thrive in a multitude of soil types. Zoysia grass does not tolerate heavy shade or poorly drained areas.

Zoysia grasses are among the most wear tolerant turf grasses. However, their slow rate of growth gives them slow recuperative potential. Because zoysia is slow to establish and can only be established vegetatively, it is the more expensive sod type.
